Egg Share CSA

from $13.00 every month for 1 year

Next pickup date for Midland is March 29th, 2025, at 10 a.m. at the Midland Market parking lot.

We are offering whole and half shares. The prices below are comparable to what you are already used to if you have purchased our eggs before ($6/dz).

  • Half share – 1 dozen eggs every 2 weeks (biweekly) for $156/year = $13/month (keep in mind there are 26 biweekly events in a year)

  • Whole share – 2 dozen eggs biweekly for $300/year = $25/month

You can purchase any combination of shares you and your family desire.  For example, if you eat a dozen eggs a week, and your spouse eats twice that, then you can purchase 6 dz eggs biweekly, which is 3 shares.

That’s 3 dz eggs/week x 2 weeks (biweekly) = 3 shares (6 dz eggs) = $75/month

Another scenario is if you want to purchase 1.5 shares.

1 whole share + a half share = 1.5 shares = 3 dz eggs biweekly = $38/month

If you are thinking to yourself that you normally paid $24/month for 2 dz eggs every 2 weeks (4 dz every month), let’s examine that math a little more. I think you will find you are already paying CSA prices.  This is because there are 26 biweekly periods in a year. If you bought 2 dz eggs every 2 weeks, then the math would be the same as our whole share CSA example above, plus $12 more yearly.  But with our CSA, we are giving you a 2 dz egg discount annually!

How do you become a CSA member?

  • Determine the half or whole share you would like to purchase and add it to the shopping cart. Then click on the cart in the bottom right corner of your screen. Go through the checkout process. You will be billed monthly for a year, with the first payment due at checkout. Otherwise, the act of subscribing to the CSA is free.

  • NOTE: if you desire more a half share or more than a whole share, you will need to pay for each share separately. Our website provider will only allow one order at a time. Add your first share of choice to the cart, go through checkout, and pay. Then repeat the process for each subsequent share. So sorry for the inconvenience!

We do not do home delivery at this time.

Where do I pick up my eggs?

Other frequently asked questions about our CSA:

Do you have other incentives for the egg CSA?

  •   It’s funny that you should ask! We are offering a $10 cash back option per CSA whole share sold for those CSA members who return all egg cartons they get from us by the end of the year.  This $10 is money we would be spending anyway on new cartons. We would rather give back to our CSA members than for that money to go to a store for new egg cartons.

Will I still be able to preorder eggs if I’m not a part of a CSA?

  • For right now, yes.  Just know that the cost of eggs is now up to $6.50/dz. Our priority is for you to become a CSA member. But if you are just trying out our eggs, feel free to preorder biweekly as long as supplies last. If we get to the point where our egg supply is depleted by our CSA members, then you will not be able to preorder eggs… until we expand our flock again at some point in the future.

What makes our eggs so special?

  • We have placed a substantial financial and time investment into scaling up our egg production. Whereas we would consistently sell out of eggs, we thought it would be a good time to mitigate that and scale up the number of layers we raised. We also began raising this flock on our property that required us starting from scratch – brand new coop that would be stout enough for bad weather, dry enough in wet weather, ventilated enough for hot weather; a roll-away nest box system that maintains cleaner eggs; an efficient egg collection system; a roll-away floor system for a stationary coop to manage manure; the planting of a perennial plant system in the 2 paddocks the chickens will rotate between on a near weekly basis.  Our hens stay in the coop during the night. This helps keep them safe from the numerous predators prowling and flying about. We let them out into their fenced in paddocks during the day, as they scrouge for bugs, grass, seeds, etc., and enjoy being a chicken as it was meant to.

  • As far as what we feed our hens, they receive a non-GMO corn/soy free feed.  We do not use organic feed at this time as that would substantially raise the cost of our eggs.  Many of our customers rave about the deliciousness of these eggs.  The orange yolk alone these eggs contain blows away any storebought competition, and perhaps even that of other farms who provide an inferior feed to their flock, to include inferior forages.  Our hens are raised on pasture and, after planting fruit and nut trees/shrubs, will eventually be orchard fed as well.

  • Because of our roll-away nest boxes and egg collection system, most of our eggs are clean and therefore unwashed.  This allows the invisible layer of protection around the egg, called the bloom, to remain intact.  The bloom helps seal the egg, preventing bacteria and debris from getting inside the egg.  Washing the egg removes this bloom.  The eggs that are laid on the coop floor or in the chicken yard will get washed if they are dirty, which most of the time they are.  Washed eggs require refrigeration to maintain freshness.

What are the benefits of our egg CSA?

  • You are guaranteed eggs for a whole year!  No more wondering if we have enough eggs for you on any given biweekly rotation.

  • You subscribe once a year and are automatically debited monthly for the number of egg shares you desire. We don’t want to charge you a yearly fee up front. Spreading out the cost of eggs helps you as it spreads the cost of the product out, and it helps us as it spreads the income over the course of 12 months. We don’t want to be on the hook for a lot of money by charging each of our CSA customers a lump sum.  If something were to happen, say, if a predator or even a storm wipes out our flock, we would rather reimburse you a prorated amount for the month than for the year and cancel your subscription.  Make sense?

  • No more remembering to preorder eggs biweekly. You would subscribe once annually, and a monthly debit would ensue and lock in your order based on the shares you purchase.  The only thing you have to remember is to pick up your eggs on your biweekly schedule (a good smart phone reminder will aid in this).  If you cannot make the designated pickup (see pickup locale below), please select someone to do so, or even let us know in advance and you can pick up on the farm. We would prefer you pick up your order at the designated place/time most of the time however.

  • You are getting delicious eggs from hens that are well-cared for.

  • You are supporting your local farmer! This system really helps us lock in loyal, paying customers who truly value our chicken eggs and how we raise our hens.

  • You have a special place in our hearts.  We love knowing exactly for whom we are collecting eggs.

Can I cancel my CSA subscription at any time?

  • Unless you are a military family, we are not able to cancel CSA subscriptions. However, we realize that extenuating circumstances do happen in life. Let us know your situation and we will see what we can do.
